According to a report, there will be a Christmas special for the comedy show Gavin and Stacey.

According to a report from Deadline, the hit sitcom Gavin and Stacey is set to make a comeback with a one-off special in December.

The new episode will be filmed during the summer and is expected to air around Christmas time.

This comes after a nine-year hiatus, with the show's last appearance being a Christmas special in 2019 that left viewers on a cliff-hanger when Nessa proposed to Smithy.

The show revolves around the lives of Gavin and Stacey, played by Matthew Horne and Joanna Page respectively, as well as their best friends Smithy and Nessa, portrayed by James Corden and Ruth Jones.

Despite their initial dislike for each other, Smithy and Nessa have a son together named Neil "the

 Baby" Noel Edmond Smith.

Deadline also reported that the majority of the main cast, including Rob Brydon, Alison Steadman, and Larry Lamb, are expected to return for the special.

Pre-production is currently underway, and filming is scheduled to begin in a few months' time.

The special is being produced by Baby Cow, Tidy Productions, and Fulwell 73, which is co-owned by James Corden.

The 2019 Christmas special was a huge success, becoming the most-watched scripted TV programme of the 2010s in the UK, with 17.1 million viewers.

It was also the most-watched comedy since the Only Fools and Horses Christmas Special in 2002. Despite not wanting to do another full series, Steadman and Lamb expressed their openness to another Christmas special, stating that it would be fun and less exhausting.
