Israel reports minimal damage following Iran's significant strike.

During the night, Iran launched over 300 drones and missiles at Israel. While the U.S. military successfully intercepted dozens of them, the majority were intercepted by Israel's military.

On Saturday night, Iran carried out a large-scale aerial assault on Israel by launching over 300 drones and missiles. This action was in retaliation for a fatal Israeli airstrike in Syria two weeks prior, signifying a notable escalation in tensions between the two regional adversaries.

Israeli military officials stated that the strikes resulted in minor damage to a single Israeli military base, with the majority of incoming threats successfully intercepted. Additionally, the United States reported assisting in shooting down dozens of drones and missiles.

The extensive attack, targeting locations both inside Israel and under its control, marks the beginning of a volatile new phase in the ongoing covert conflict between Iran and Israel.

The Revolutionary Guards Corps of Iran announced via state television that it had deployed "dozens of drones and missiles" from Iran towards Israel as a response to what it termed as "crimes" by the Zionist regime. Subsequently, it claimed via social media that it had targeted military sites within Israel, cautioned the United States against intervention, and warned of further strikes in case Iran or its interests were targeted.

Here’s what we know:

  • Inbar Gutter, a spokeswoman for Soroka Medical Center in southern Israel, reported that a total of 12 individuals were admitted overnight.

  • Among the areas struck was the Golan Heights, a strategically important region bordering Syria that Israel annexed nearly six decades ago. Hezbollah, the Lebanese militia supported by Iran, claimed responsibility for firing numerous rockets at an Israeli barracks in that area. However, it remains unclear if this barrage was part of the broader Iranian attack.

  • Following the attacks, while Iranians in Tehran gathered to celebrate, additional air-raid sirens were heard across large areas of southern Israel, the West Bank, and the Golan Heights. The Israeli government issued alerts regarding potential missile threats in the Negev Desert, home to several military bases. Furthermore, the airspace over Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon was shut down.

  • President Biden ended his weekend at his vacation home in Delaware early to meet with his national security team and also had a conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel.

  • The President of the United Nations Security Council announced that an emergency meeting will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday to address Iran's attacks on Israel. The meeting was requested by Israel's U.N. ambassador, Gilad Erdan.
